The program, managed by the Sports Center, has a budget of 33,000 euros and takes place in 14 educational centers across the city. Its main objective is to encourage sports practice and instill values such as teamwork and respect in young people.
The activities are tailored to each Primary school grade. First-graders will practice judo and roller hockey; second-graders, artistic gymnastics and athletics; third-graders, colpbol; fourth-graders, orienteering; fifth-graders, adapted sports and Nordic walking; and sixth-graders, korfball.
The Councilor for Sports, Alberto Belda, highlighted that the EPIS represent a commitment to introducing sports into classrooms and allowing children to discover new disciplines. "We want students not only to engage in physical activity but also to learn the values associated with sports, such as teamwork, respect, effort, and companionship," he stated.
This initiative facilitates exposure to less common sports modalities, thanks to the involvement of qualified technicians, specialists, and local sports clubs. This allows students to explore new interests and develop skills.
The participating educational centers are: CEIP El Romeral, CEIP Miguel Hernández, CEIP Horta Major, CEIP Sant Vicent, Col·legi San Vicente de Paúl, Col·legi La Salle, Col·legi Sant Roc, Col·legi José Arnauda, Col·legi Sagrada Família, Col·legi La Presentació, Col·legi Santa Ana, Col·legi Salesiano San Vicent Ferrer, Col·legi Salesianos Juan XXIII, and CEE Tomás Llácer.
Belda concluded by emphasizing the program's significance due to its scale and impact on promoting sports from early educational stages. "Reaching over 3,000 students demonstrates the scope of this program and the importance of continuing to foster sports practice from the earliest educational stages. Furthermore, the participation of clubs and specialist technicians allows us to offer a quality activity and showcase the wide range of sports opportunities available in Alcoy," he noted.
