The Alcoy City Council has confirmed that between January and May 2026, the city registered 428,926 entries of non-resident vehicles, compared to 259,997 departures of local vehicles, a 65% increase.

Mobility data, compiled from license plate reader camera records, highlights Alcoy's strong attraction capacity as a regional hub. For every 100 local vehicle departures, approximately 165 external vehicle entries are recorded, a ratio underscoring the city's role in areas such as industry, services, education, leisure, and shopping.
Mayor Toni Francés emphasized that "Alcoy is a city that attracts activity and provides a wide range of services to an area that extends beyond our municipal boundaries." He added that "mobility between localities is part of daily life" and stressed the need to "strengthen our capacity to generate opportunities and attract people, fostering collaboration between neighboring municipalities."
Francés responded to "certain interested sectors" projecting a "catastrophic vision" of Alcoy, stating that the access records "offer a more complete perspective" and demonstrate the city's "notable attraction capacity" as well as its "central role in the activity of its surroundings." He concluded that this data, along with population and Social Security growth, "reinforces the image of a city with potential to attract industry, services, and new opportunities."
The difference between entries and departures remained consistent across all analyzed months. April saw the highest volume of entries (100,423) and the largest difference, with 80% more external vehicle entries than local departures, possibly influenced by the local Moros y Cristianos festivities. Even excluding this month, external entries exceed local departures by 61%.
April 1st was the day with the most entries of non-resident vehicles (5,229), more than double the local vehicle departures (2,463). This mobility data, combined with Alcoy's population growth to over 62,213 inhabitants according to INE, reinforces the image of a city attractive to residents and activity.
