The Alcoy City Council has concluded the redevelopment of Joan Fuster street. This project, which began last July, primarily aimed to enhance the accessibility and safety conditions of the area, as well as organize parking near an educational center. The total investment amounted to 93,109.50 euros, including VAT.
The intervention is part of the 2025 participatory budgets, responding to a citizen proposal for the creation of new parking areas in the city, which had a global allocation of 105,000 euros.
The works have improved pedestrian routes and pedestrian mobility. Furthermore, the space designated for parking has been reorganized, creating a total of 95 direct parking spaces. The project addressed previous deficiencies, such as discontinuous sidewalks and irregular parking, demolishing 363 square meters of rigid pavement and regularizing the new platform.
Basic services in the area have also been renovated, including the cancellation and replacement of eight drains connected to the general rainwater network and the installation of eight new manholes for the public lighting network.

"With this action, we have responded to a need in this area, improving both pedestrian routes and parking organization. It is an intervention that facilitates the daily lives of the residents and, especially, enhances safety in an area with a nearby educational center, such as El Romeral."
“
"This action is an example of the results of participatory budgets and how citizen proposals can translate into concrete improvements in neighborhoods. In this case, a demand related to parking has been met, and the space has been transformed to be more accessible and safe."
