Unemployment in Alicante drops 3% in June thanks to the services sector

The city ends the month with 24,529 registered unemployed, 771 fewer than last year.

The city of Alicante has registered a 3.04% drop in unemployment during June, with 24,529 unemployed people, which is 771 fewer than the previous year.

The month of June concluded with an improvement in unemployment figures in the city of Alicante, standing at 24,529 unemployed people. This figure represents an interannual decrease of 3.04%, with 771 fewer unemployed compared to the same month last year. The downward trend has been maintained since 2022 and also improves the May record, with 307 fewer unemployed.
This reduction is mainly attributed to the activity of the services sector, the most predominant in the locality, which accumulated 17,768 unemployed at the end of the month, 327 fewer than in May. Unemployment has also fallen in industry (1,089 unemployed, 32 fewer) and agriculture (429 people, 7 fewer). On the other hand, the construction sector has experienced a slight increase, with 1,967 unemployed (15 more), as has the group of those previously unemployed, which rises to 3,276 unemployed (44 more).
At the provincial, regional, and national levels, unemployment figures have also shown decreases. The province of Alicante has 112,991 unemployed (1,500 fewer than in May), the Valencian Community has 281,651 (2,445 fewer), and Spain has 28,739 fewer people unemployed.
The report also details the distribution of unemployment by age and gender. The group of over 45 years old is the most affected, with 14,922 unemployed, followed by the 25 to 44 age group (8,283) and those under 25 (1,324). Regarding gender, women continue to be the most disadvantaged, with 14,511 unemployed in the city, although the figure has decreased by 183 compared to May and by 399 compared to last year. Nevertheless, there are still 4,493 more unemployed women than men.
Regarding hiring, during June, 13,789 contracts were registered, of which 6,219 were permanent and 7,502 were temporary. In total, 3,384 more contracts were signed than in the previous month.
