The future urban planning of Alicante includes the conversion of Sangueta into a new reference space. Located between the Santa Bárbara Castle, the Serra Grossa, and the coastline, the plan proposes a new neighborhood with housing, green areas, and economic activity primarily linked to health, well-being, and care.
The proposal includes around 200 new homes, with consideration for preserving existing residential blocks. The goal is for Sangueta to become the coastal piece of a new axis connecting to La Condomina via Dénia Avenue, fostering businesses and services related to health, well-being, sports, and elder care.
The project includes a large green area facing the sea, new facilities, and improved access and infrastructure to restore the neighborhood's connection to the coast and pedestrian access. Sangueta will be integrated into a broader area including the new developments of Vistahermosa-Juncaret, Vista Alegre, Alameda, and Pino y Ruaya.
The Miguel Hernández University may expand its presence with new educational facilities. The care economy will play a significant role, facilitating the establishment of residences and socio-health services in response to an aging population.
The transformation of Sangueta, previously included in the planning as Integrated Operation OI/6, is now being revised with the new ORE-2 Sangueta. This operation will be promoted independently, yet coordinated, with a Special Plan pending judicial ruling.
The main challenge will be ensuring the transformation is compatible with the enclave's landscape sensitivity, given its proximity to the Castle, the Serra Grossa, and the sea. The new planning aims to make Sangueta more than just a residential area: a neighborhood open to the coast and connected to a new hub for health, well-being, and care extending to La Condomina.
