The central Main Street in El Campello will undergo a complete transformation with its integral renovation works. The project includes planting native trees, removing parking spaces, establishing a speed limit, ensuring compatibility with a cycle lane for cyclists, partial pedestrianization of the road, and a comprehensive redevelopment, including the sewage system.
The Department of Public Infrastructure, led by Cristian Palomares, has initiated the tender process with priority processing. The base budget amounts to 699,790.70 euros, funded by the Investment Plan approved by the municipal plenary for 2024. After analyzing the proposals, the Contracting Board, composed exclusively of municipal technicians, will award the work, which must be completed within six months from the contract signing.
According to councilor Cristian Palomares, the main objective is to remodel Main Street into a 'single-level platform', aligning with El Campello's Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PMUS). This plan indicates that Mayor, Trinidad, and Pal streets form the core around Canalejas Square or the Church Square, where the Municipal Library is also located.
This area, a frequent venue for cultural, religious, and festive activities, currently suffers from accessibility issues, with sections lacking adequate pedestrian pathways. The PMUS plans to extend this platform to nearby streets, increasing pedestrian space in the urban center.
The project includes the renovation of all services, complete redevelopment of the road and sewage system, with special attention to the compatibility of the final road level with existing property and business access points. Trees will be planted to combat the municipality's high summer temperatures. Additionally, a rainwater drainage system will be implemented to manage runoff, analyzing the road's perimeter and planning the surrounding network up to the nearest discharge point.
The firm INGEMED, SLP, the project's designer, has been appointed contract supervisor to oversee execution, coordinating with the Departments of Public Infrastructure and Contracting. This initiative follows the successful model of Carrer Sant Vicent, converted into a single-level platform years ago, and the Carrer la Mar promenade, which demonstrate the success of similar projects.
