The live-action filming of Disney's film ‘Tangled’ at Ciudad de la Luz (Alicante) is projected to have a direct economic impact exceeding 40 million euros in the Valencian Community until 2026.

The production of the new live-action version of ‘Tangled’ (Tangled), based on the fairy tale ‘Rapunzel’, began on June 29th in Spain, with the production hub established at the Ciudad de la Luz studios in Alicante. The production is scheduled for completion in October, with related activities continuing until November, and a cinema release planned for March 31, 2028.
The President of the Generalitat, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, highlighted Disney's commitment to the Valencian territory, exemplified by this filming. The film, directed by Michael Gracey and produced by Kristin Burr, features a cast led by Teagan Croft, Milo Manheim, Kathryn Hahn, and Diego Luna, among others.
The production has maintained its base at Ciudad de la Luz since February, with pre-production, location scouting, casting, and rehearsals taking place entirely within the Valencian Community. Principal photography is occurring across various locations in Spain, including the Valencian Community, the Basque Country, and Catalonia, with an initial three-week period in Valencian territory.
The crew is scheduled to return to Ciudad de la Luz in September to complete remaining sequences, totaling approximately seven weeks of filming in the Valencian Community, thereby ensuring continuous activity for the technical teams.
Ciudad de la Luz currently hosts a crew that has ranged from 200 to 700 people, with the rental of four soundstages and other facilities. The occupation is planned for eleven months, until the end of November, ensuring ongoing employment and consistent supply consumption in the Alicante area.
The direct economic impact of the production exceeds 40 million euros, encompassing expenses for equipment, logistics, and personnel. The Generalitat has granted a subsidy of 5 million euros, linked to the project's recognition as a strategic investment for the audiovisual and tourism sectors.
President Pérez Llorca emphasized that Disney's presence represents nearly a full year of work, establishing Ciudad de la Luz as a global benchmark. He reaffirmed the Generalitat's commitment to the sector in positioning the Valencian Community as an international destination for film production.
