The People's Party (PP) has given the green light to a new tender that includes a progressive increase of one million euros annually over the four years of the contract's validity, as well as an increase in staff to up to 200 workers.
The base budget for the tender amounts to 44,709,871.27 euros for the next four years, with the possibility of a one-year extension. This increase covers the maintenance of new areas and the incorporation of 20 operators.
Alicante currently has over three million square meters of green spaces, 75,000 trees in streets and squares, and more than 6,500 square meters of flowerbeds, in addition to the city's urban and peri-urban mountains.
The contract is divided into three lots: the first for the general maintenance of green spaces (41,839,290 euros), the second for urban and peri-urban forest areas (Benacantil, Serra Grossa, etc.) with a base budget of 1,583,561.44 euros, and the third for special employment centers in Vía Parque and Benisaudet gardens (1,287,018.90 euros).
The general lot plans to reinforce the staff by 20 operators, reaching 170 employees, and adding the seven municipal gardeners, the total personnel dedicated to parks and gardens will exceed 200 workers by the end of the contract.
The Councilor for Parks and Gardens, Rafa Alemañ, highlighted that the new contract of nearly 45 million euros for four years, plus an extension, includes an annual increase of one million compared to the previous one.
Alemañ also emphasized the maintenance of specific contracts for the conservation of urban and peri-urban mountains with three forest brigades, and the reinforcement of collaboration with Special Employment Centers for Vía Parque and Benisaudet.
The Green Spaces department anticipates the new contract to be operational between late 2026 and early 2027. The tender also prioritizes sustainability in new machinery, with the use of electric energy and sustainable vehicles.
The contract covers over three million square meters of green spaces, 74,000 trees, thousands of square meters of flowerbeds, and includes the maintenance of urban furniture, slopes, roundabouts, signage, and sports facilities in parks such as El Palmeral or La Ereta. The supply of 15,000 reeds for the Romería de la Santa Faz is also included.
The maintenance of mountains and forests includes areas such as Benacantil, Cabo de la Huerta, Orgegia, Serra Grossa, and other spaces that may be created during the contractual period.
