The Alicante City Council has given the green light in its Local Government Board to the preliminary project for the public works concession that will allow the renovation of the underground car park of Plaza de la Montañeta and the square itself. The planned works have a budget valued at 2.5 million euros.
The document introduces significant improvements, such as a new children's play area, an expanded green space, the renovation of the existing pergola and fountain. Furthermore, the necessary pre-installation for the placement of the Social Nativity Scene during the Christmas season will be incorporated.
The five objections submitted during the public exhibition period have also been resolved, with two of them being accepted. These refer to the maintenance of the protected cycle lane and the inclusion of protective bollards and benches in the children's area, considering that they fit into the final design.
The Councilor for Urban Mobility, Carlos de Juan, highlighted that the approval of the preliminary project represents a step forward to be able to tender the work. He recalled that the car park, which will revert to the City Council upon completion of the current concession, requires intervention to renew pavements, waterproofing, lighting, and accessibility, given its intensive use with around 30,000 monthly vehicle entries.
The improvements include the pedestrian connection with the building of the Treasury delegation and the Parroquia Nuestra Señora de Gracia, facilitating transit towards Ángel Lozano street. The car park will also increase the size of the parking bays to adapt to current vehicles and will improve waterproofing to prevent leaks.
The project, initially approved in May, also includes a new concession for the management of the car park for a period of 15 years, with an estimated operating fee of 8.5 million euros.
