The Oceanogràfic Foundation, in collaboration with the El Campello City Council, has organized an event open to the public for the reintroduction of these animals into their natural habitat. The release will take place at 11:30 AM, near number 111 on Sant Vicent street, close to the Moana beach bar and Punta del Riu dog-friendly beach.
Technicians from the Oceanogràfic, local authorities, members of volunteer groups assisting in the monitoring of sea turtle nests, and schoolchildren from the municipality's four public schools will participate in the event. The aim is to raise awareness about the importance of conserving this species.
These five specimens are part of a larger group of 92 loggerhead turtles that hatched on the morning of September 3, 2025, in this very area of the coastline. While most reached the sea directly, these five hatchlings were transferred to the Oceanogràfic facilities for scientific study and to monitor their growth during their first year of life.
With this release, the animals will be able to complete the same journey as the rest of their cohort and fully integrate into the marine ecosystem. The event will also serve to strengthen the collaboration between scientists, volunteers, and the educational community in protecting the coast of El Campello, a key location for the reproduction of this species.
