This scientific event, aiming to emphasize the role of the voice in the Humanities, is co-directed by UA professor Maribel Peñalver Vicea and University of Oxford professor Michaël Abcassis. The collaboration between the two universities began in 2023.
The colloquium will explore how the voice is situated at the intersection of body and language, following theories such as those of Jacques Lacan, who theorized it as a pulsional object. According to Peñalver, 'the voice not only escapes the mere materiality of language but also pertains to desire, the body, and (un)consciousness'.
The importance of the voice in various disciplines such as cinema, performing arts, literature, psychiatry, sociology, and philosophy will be examined, approaching the concept from all historical periods.
