The works, which will take eight months to complete, include the construction of a new platform 75 meters long and 4.5 meters wide, as well as modifying the track layout to adapt it to the new units. The public company has awarded the site supervision for 146,556.41 euros and the construction works for 3,117,268.15 euros, with a total investment of 3,263,824.56 euros.
Currently, the Porta del Mar stop has a 33-meter platform, insufficient for the new Series 4500 units. These new trams, manufactured by Stadler in Albuixech, measure 45 meters and have a capacity for over 280 people, exceeding the 32.3 meters and 198 seats of the current Series 4.200 trams. According to FGV's managing director, Alfonso Novo, this is the only significant modification required across the entire TRAM of Alicante network for the incorporation of these vehicles.
The works will also include the urbanization of the area adjacent to the platform in coordination with the Alicante City Council, the replacement of track superstructure elements, and the renovation of installations such as the catenary, railway signaling, and urban services.
These improvements are part of FGV's 2026-2030 Action Plan, which aims to enhance the infrastructure of Metrovalencia and TRAM of Alicante. FGV will incorporate a total of 22 new trams, 6 for Alicante and 16 for Valencia, with an investment of approximately 140 million euros. The first vehicle is already undergoing test runs on the Alicante network.
