The University of Alicante (UA) will be the main organizer of the III FAO Youth Forum (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), in collaboration with the Office of Creativity and Innovation of Dénia. The event will take place in this city in November 2027.
The announcement was made during the II Forum of Youth on Spanish Agri-food Systems, held in Madrid, which was attended by a UA delegation led by the Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, Antonio Sánchez. The organizing committee for the upcoming III Forum will also include Juana Jordá, director of the UA-Dénia Mediterranean Gastronomy Center (Gasterra); Arantzazu Valdés, Academic Coordinator of the UA's Degree in Gastronomy and Culinary Arts; and professors Magdalena García Irles, Enrique Moltó Manero, Rosa Torres, and Covadonga Ordoñez.
FAO, founded on October 16, 1945, is a UN specialized agency dedicated to eradicating hunger, improving nutrition, and ensuring global food security. The organization aims to promote analysis and debate on the future of agri-food systems, highlighting the crucial role of new generations in their governance.
The UA actively participated in the II Youth Forum, a multidisciplinary space for debate and intergenerational dialogue focused on the sustainability, innovation, and governance of the food model. Key challenges addressed included generational succession, sector digitalization, and the need to give youth a voice in public decision-making on food. Projects on production, transformation, food sustainability, and global trade were also presented.
