The 79th edition of La Tomatina, one of the most anticipated traditions to close the summer, will kick off at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, August 26th. For a full hour, the streets of Buñol will be dyed red with the throwing of 150,000 kilos of tomatoes. The organization anticipates that the festival will attract numerous tourists, as in previous years.
The official route of the tomato battle will follow the trucks advancing through San Luis and Cid streets, reaching the Puente de la República, where it will conclude around 1:00 PM with the traditional final firecracker. The capacity has been maintained at 22,000 people to ensure safety, and purchasing a ticket is required to participate.
Tickets, costing fifteen euros, can be purchased through the event's official website, www.latomatina.info. Alongside the main event, a comprehensive program of activities has been organized, including the traditional "palo jabón" (greased pole) and various pre- and post-festival parties and concerts.
Pre-festival activities will commence the night before with the "Back to the future" party in the Plaza del Pueblo, and the "Empalmà" party at the sports center near the pool. The schedule for August 26th includes the greased pole climb at 11:00 AM, the Tomatina from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, street cleaning at 1:00 PM, the official After Party at El Planell park at 1:00 PM, the presentation of children born in the past year to the Patron Saint at 7:30 PM, a solemn mass and fireworks display at 8:00 PM, and a "Queen is back" tribute at 11:00 PM.
