The grants will enable the development of educational, health, and social and productive fabric support projects in countries such as Guinea-Bissau, Colombia, Haiti, Gambia, Rwanda, and Mozambique. The Councilor for Peace and Solidarity, Juana Ochoa, highlighted the municipal commitment to cooperation and solidarity, stating that "from the municipal level, we can also contribute to improving the living conditions of people in situations of greater vulnerability".
The call for proposals includes two budget lines: 16,000 euros for current expenses and 16,000 euros for investments. The five beneficiary organizations are ACCI (International Association Against Blindness), Karit Solidarios por la Paz, Manos Unidas, Cruz Roja, and Anawin.
In the current expenses line, four grants of 4,000 euros each have been awarded. Anawin will receive funds for a bicycle workshop in Guinea-Bissau; Cruz Roja, for the reconstruction of the productive and social fabric of Colombia; Karit Solidarios por la Paz, for health strengthening in Haiti; and ACCI, for ophthalmology in Gambia.
Regarding the investment line, also endowed with 16,000 euros, the subsidized projects include strengthening education in Rwanda by Karit Solidarios por la Paz, improving access to secondary education in Mozambique by Manos Unidas, and an ophthalmology project in Gambia by ACCI. Each of these receives 5,333 euros.
Councilor Juana Ochoa emphasized that international cooperation goes beyond financial contribution, highlighting the daily work of volunteers on the ground to facilitate education, health, and equality for the most vulnerable people. She thanked the organizations and participants for their involvement, noting that municipal collaboration helps "improve the quality of life for the most disadvantaged people."
