The work has been contracted on an urgent basis with the specialized company Podas Elche. Tasks include reducing the canopy of the five trees and subsequently removing the plant debris. The Councilor for Environment, Rubén Millán, highlighted the difficulty in finding a company with immediate availability at this time of year.
The intervention is expected to conclude by the end of this week, although it may extend into early next week. Meanwhile, cordoned-off areas of La Glorieta will remain closed to the public and will reopen once the work is finished and safety conditions are guaranteed.
The action is a response to branch falls in recent weeks. According to the council, the ficus trees have structural characteristics influenced by severe pruning and relocation during the green area's renovation in 2005, which has resulted in some branches having weaker anchoring.
This marks the third intervention on these trees in the last four years, following work carried out in November 2022 and February 2024, in addition to regular maintenance by municipal crews. Specialists recommend annual formative pruning and other complementary measures to minimize future incidents.
