The Elda City Council, through the Municipal Institute of Social Services (IMSSE), has presented ‘Elda Acompaña’, an intergenerational volunteering project designed to combat isolation and unwanted loneliness among the elderly population.

The program aims to address the growing reality of seniors who, despite maintaining their independence, lack support networks or regular companionship. ‘Elda Acompaña’ proposes a model of bidirectional enrichment, where youth and maturity converge to share time, stories, and experiences.
The fundamental pillar of the proposal is the creation of lasting intergenerational bonds. Seniors contribute the collective memory and experience of Elda, while volunteers bring vitality and a revitalizing presence.
The accompaniment actions will be structured in a personalized way. Among the planned dynamics are home visits, healthy walks, attendance at cultural events and creative workshops, as well as group gatherings that will reinforce self-esteem and the sense of belonging to the city.
The technical team of the IMSSE will offer guidance, preparation, and follow-up to volunteers. Only the commitment to contribute at least one hour per week is required. Registration will open soon through the usual channels of the Institute.

"With ‘Elda Acompaña’, our municipality reaffirms its commitment to being a city that cares, connects generations, and demonstrates that empathy and closeness are the most effective tools for weaving a more humane future."
