Since June, the Elda City Council, through the Department of Environment, has been running an information campaign to raise public awareness about the safe observation of the total solar eclipse scheduled for August 12. This initiative aligns with the recommendations from the Generalitat Valenciana's Emergency Coordination Center.
In collaboration with the Elda Astronomy Association, approved glasses and informational brochures with tips for enjoying the astronomical phenomenon without risk to visual health have been distributed free of charge. The Councilor for Environment, Cristina Rodríguez Armigen, has highlighted the importance of this collaboration in bringing scientific knowledge to the public.
Rodríguez Armigen also called for collective responsibility in natural spaces, urging respect and care for the environment, as well as adherence to authorities' instructions to prevent incidents. She emphasized the need to exclusively use approved glasses and follow emergency service recommendations.
Given the declaration of pre-emergency level 3 for forest fires by the Generalitat Valenciana, a special security operation has been established for August 12, effective from 3:00 PM to 11:59 PM. This level entails a prohibition on transit through trails and cross-country, lighting fires in forest areas, and the suspension of fire-related permits and authorizations for sporting activities.
The Elda Local Police and the National Police will jointly control access to the Bolón and Camara mountains to ensure compliance with restrictions. Controls will also be carried out for potential stubble burning in the forest area. Civil Protection personnel will assist by informing the public.
