The Department of Solidarity of the Elda City Council will organize a meeting next week with NGOs and representatives of the Colombian community residing in the city. The objective is to articulate support measures for families affected by the seismic event that struck western South America.
The extraordinary session of the Sectorial Council for Solidarity, scheduled for next Wednesday, aims to channel coordinated humanitarian aid actions. This consultative municipal body brings together municipal representation, political parties, and the associative fabric and NGOs operating in the city.
The Council's main function is to coordinate international cooperation policies, manage development project aid, and articulate emergency responses to catastrophes. The meeting will include local NGOs, council members, and representatives of the Colombian community in Elda, which numbers 1,154 people according to the municipal registry, making it the largest foreign community in the municipality.
The Councilor for Solidarity, Anabel García, emphasized the need for a rapid and effective response. "Elda has always proven to be a deeply solidary city," she stated, "and we could not stand idly by in the face of the tragic news from Colombia. Our neighbors of Colombian origin must feel the support of the entire city."
García also highlighted the importance of coordination to ensure the effectiveness of measures. "We seek to join forces, listen to the most urgent needs of the community and NGOs, and articulate direct, safe, and efficient official aid channels. The Colombian people are not alone, and Elda will collaborate in their recovery."
