The Council calls for the activation of all available places, both for residence and day center services, after comprehensive renovation works concluded in 2024. Currently, the center operates with only 36 active places, far from its total capacity of 85 residential and 40 day center spots.
As part of this demand, the governing team emphasizes the urgent need to establish a specific unit for the mental health treatment of the elderly. According to the relevant department, mental health issues are among the primary ailments in this life stage, making it essential to enhance comprehensive care in public centers.
The call for the center's normalization, unanimously supported in the Municipal Plenary through a motion presented by the Platform for the Defense of Public Health of the Elda Health Department, aims to ensure an active, dignified, and quality aging process for the city's seniors.
The Councilor for Social Welfare and the Elderly, David Guardiola, has reiterated that the City Council demands an urgent response from the Generalitat to fully activate the residence and incorporate specialized resources.
The comprehensive remodeling works of the El Catí Residence, initiated by the Botànic Council with a budget of 5.3 million euros, were completed in 2024. The project modernized the facilities to expand and improve care services for the elderly and dependent individuals in the region.
