The intervention, covering 3,300 square meters between Ortega y Gasset street and Calle Nueva, involved an investment of 841,000 euros. The aim was to transform Elda's Historic Center by eliminating architectural barriers to facilitate movement for everyone, especially those with reduced mobility.
The comprehensive renovation, part of the 'Elda parte de ti' plan and executed by Veolia, the company responsible for the city's drinking water supply, included a complete upgrade of the area's water pipelines, significantly improving the quality of the service.
New green areas with trees and shrubs have been added to provide shade and coolness, complemented by urban furniture encouraging rest and enjoyment for residents. The public lighting has been updated with LED luminaires on catenaries, optimizing visibility, coexistence between vehicles and pedestrians, and overall safety.
The new road signage is designed to adapt to specific occasions, such as local festivals, ensuring safety at all times. The mayor emphasized that these urban investments are part of an economic revitalization strategy for the city's heart, aiming to improve accessibility, sustainability, and the streets' appearance.
Rubén Alfaro concluded by recalling that the project demonstrates the local government's commitment to recovering and revaluing the Historic Center, creating renewed, comfortable, sustainable, and greener public spaces designed for citizens to reconnect with the city's culture and history.
