The meeting, which also included MEP Leire Pajín, served to delve into the main demands of the province's business sector. The discussion linked the recent visit to Elda by the Minister of Industry, Jordi Hereu, with the European Commission's agenda, elevating industrial needs to the level of EU community policies.
The meeting focused on the need to consolidate a just energy transition and enhance competitiveness through the circular economy. These are key pillars for sectors such as footwear, textiles, toys, and plastics, which face structural and cyclical challenges.
Rubén Alfaro detailed the challenges confronting the local and provincial industry. Although the footwear sector held a central position due to its historical and socioeconomic significance, an inclusive vision encompassing other productive sectors was presented.
A fundamental point addressed was how to integrate the regulatory and environmental demands of the energy transition into the traditional industrial fabric without jeopardizing its viability or employment. Furthermore, competitiveness through the circular economy was debated, a crucial model for Alicante companies to maintain their international leadership by adapting to European sustainability standards.
Through this encounter, the Elda City Council reinforces its active role in defending the industrial interests of the city and the province, seeking strategic alliances within community institutions to support companies in their modernization, digitalization, and decarbonization processes.
