The joint petition, signed by mayors Antonio Ropero (Olocau), Juan Romero (Marines), and Jesús Salmerón (Gátova), highlights the need for coordinated action between administrations given the existing risk in an area characterized by extensive forest masses, continuous vegetation fuel, and complex topography. The Sierra Calderona presents conditions that favor fire spread, such as westerly winds, high temperatures, and low humidity.
This request is part of the 'Order 1' firebreak areas network, considered the highest territorial hierarchy preventive infrastructures. Their purpose is to compartmentalize large forest areas and create elements to break the continuity of vegetation fuel. This network is included in both the Forest Fire Prevention Plan for the Llíria Demarcation and the plan for the Sierra Calderona Natural Park itself.
The CV-25 road is considered a suitable axis to support this action, as it is an existing linear infrastructure that inherently creates a physical discontinuity of vegetation fuel. The mayor of Olocau emphasized that, with this request, which also includes the subsequent maintenance of the firebreak area, the three towns aim to implement a strategic measure crucial for the safety of residents and the protection of the natural environment.
