The Premios Literarios Ciutat de Sagunt (Sagunto City Literary Awards) have reached a new historic high in their twenty-ninth edition, receiving 242 literary works. This 65% increase compared to 2025 figures marks the third consecutive year of record participation, as reported by the Gabinet de Promoció del Valencià (Valencian Promotion Office) of the Sagunto City Council.
The works are distributed across different contests: 58 for the XXIII Pepe Alba Theatre Award, 79 for the XXVIII Narrative Award, and 105 for the XXIX Jaume Bru i Vidal Poetry Award. The council has also announced an increase in financial rewards: 8,000 euros and the publication of the novel for the narrative award; and 5,000 euros plus publication for the poetry and theatre awards. The juries will meet in September, and the winners' names will be announced in October during the awards gala at the Mario Monreal Cultural Center.
The councilor for the Gabinet de Promoció del Valencià, Patricia Sánchez, highlighted that Sagunto is consolidating itself as a literary benchmark. "Three consecutive years of records are not a coincidence; they are the result of a firm commitment to culture, to Valencian, and to literary creation as a driver of local development," she stated.
Sánchez emphasized the balanced growth in narrative, poetry, and theatre, which demonstrates the awards' diversification and vitality. The increase in financial allocations and the guarantee of publication are a clear sign of the commitment to culture not just as symbolic recognition, but as a professional career path and real opportunity for creators, making the awards a prestigious cultural brand.
