The president of the Federation of Peñas of Port de Sagunt, Manel Rubio, told Levante-EMV that nearly 10,000 people were counted at the fairground last Saturday, marking an impressive start to the festivities. The Avenida Camp de Morvedre saw a large influx of peñas, residents, and visitors who gathered at the Tenencia de Alcaldía for the official start, this year led by the Club Deportivo Acero. The firing of the firecracker unleashed euphoria among the crowd, who jumped and sang under a light rain.
The event was attended by municipal authorities, including the mayor, Darío Moreno, and the Councilor for Festivals, Patricia Sánchez. The traditional correfoc and a fireworks display were also held. Rubio positively assessed the start, highlighting the high participation and the absence of significant incidents, despite the venue being "full of people".
Regarding incidents, there were six 'revolcones' (bull charges) from the bulls (four on Saturday night and two on Sunday during the vaquillas), all attended in the infirmary with no major consequences. There were also a couple of fights that were dispersed by the Local Police without issues. Additionally, several intoxicated individuals required attention, including one person who appeared naked on the promenade and a 15-year-old girl.
The traditional paella cooking event brought together 62 participants in a festive atmosphere, although with lower attendance due to accumulated fatigue. The festivities will continue with bull demonstrations, 'toros embolados' (bulls with flaming horns), and musical performances, such as the orchestra Valparaiso, and a DJ festival scheduled for Tuesday.
