The poster from the bullfighting club “1 forat es 1 forat” in Sagunto, which depicted a woman being “subdued” by a bull with the inscription “pa una vesprà está bé” (for an afternoon it's fine), has generated widespread criticism. The Feminist Coordinator of Morverdre denounced the image, describing it as degrading and humiliating.
Municipal sources explain that the poster was removed the same week of the festivities after receiving a complaint. The council informed the bullfighting club of the need to remove the image as it contravened principles of equality and coexistence. The club has requested time to change its image, which is printed on t-shirts and other items. A working group has been established to ensure future images align with principles of respect and dignity.
The Ministry of Equality, through the General Directorate of Equality, has sent a letter to the council requesting an analysis of the facts and information from the club. It asks to review any potential authorizations, collaborations, or public subsidies linked to the club's activities to ensure compliance with principles of equality and non-discrimination. According to municipal sources, the clubs do not receive public funding.
The Director General, Davinia Bono, stated that the images present a degrading and objectifying representation of women, perpetuating sexist stereotypes incompatible with democratic coexistence and public festivities.
Meanwhile, Compromís in Sagunto has called for a working group on equality between the City Council and the city's club federations. Its spokesperson, Maria Josep Picó, has urged the mayor, Darío Moreno, to show “courage” and pointed out that the image projected does not reflect the municipality's social reality.
