The IES Altos Hornos in Puerto de Sagunto, initially known as Number 5, has now been fully settled. A payment of 132,568 euros from the Ministry of Education to the local council has cleared the final outstanding invoice for the construction of the center, which was completed in September 2023, three years ago.
This matter, unanimously approved in Sagunto's ordinary plenary session, involved a modification of delegated competencies. The construction cost of this infrastructure, which required over five years of administrative work since 2008, has exceeded the initial projected 10.2 million euros, financed by the Pla Edificant. The center experienced delays and several public mobilizations due to its necessity.
According to the Councilor for Education of the Sagunto City Council, Raúl Palmero, the ministry has acknowledged and settled the additional expense incurred by the project, which amounted to a figure slightly higher than the original budget.
The outstanding payment, covering the total cost of the work, has now been made effective, as confirmed by the councilor, and the ministry has certified the project's completion. The IES Nº 5 was inaugurated in early September 2023, just before the start of the school year. The construction works were awarded to the company Doalco, S.A. The center has a capacity for 1,200 students, with 30 units for Compulsory Secondary Education and 8 for Baccalaureate.
