Yesterday afternoon, over 200 residents of Algímia d'Alfara convened at the Mirador del Picaio to witness an astronomical eclipse. The event began with an excursion from the town to the Forest Fire Prevention Observation Point, which has been adapted as a recreational area. The local council provided refreshments and water to attendees, along with special glasses for safe viewing of the phenomenon.
The local administration equipped the area with tents and awnings for shelter and provided vehicles for people with functional diversity to access the viewpoint, which remained closed to vehicular traffic. Safety was ensured by Civil Protection.
Once at the viewpoint, attendees enjoyed the eclipse and explanations from a specialist about the phenomenon and the Perseids meteor shower. A telescope was set up for the latter, which extended the gathering longer than anticipated. Some participants chose to stay for dinner, bringing their own tables and chairs.
The afternoon-evening unfolded smoothly, allowing residents to observe the eclipse from a privileged location, over 300 meters above sea level, situated between the Calderona and Espadán mountain ranges.
