The project, which will extend through 2026, focuses on improving sidewalk accessibility and repaving the roadway with printed asphalt. These improvements will cover Calle Mayor del Pla, Plaça del Pont, the Puente de Santa Teresa, and the intersection with Calle Alfonso XII, where the Cantó sculpture is located.
The aim is to unify the printed asphalt surface from the Paseo de Germanías area to the intersection with Calle Alfonso XII, standardizing all streets in the city center. Additionally, a drip irrigation system will be implemented, and approximately fifty medium-sized trees will be planted along Calle Mayor del Pla. Ducts will also be created for the future undergrounding of overhead telecommunications cabling.
These works complement recent efforts, such as the replacement of sodium vapor lamps with the LED system. During the first month of execution, traffic will be temporarily rerouted on Calle Mayor del Pla to facilitate asphalting and trenching, although access to Plaça del Pont will be maintained from transversal streets.
According to the Councilor for Public Spaces, Claudio Guilabert, these works conclude the urban interventions in the Pla de Sant Josep neighborhood. Previous projects focused on creating a single platform, widening sidewalks, planting trees, and renovating public lighting on streets such as Calle Aljub, Pintor Murillo, Samsó, and Plaza Polo.
