The Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche, through its Vice-Rectorate for Culture, Equality, and Diversity, has organized the screening of the documentary The Three Deaths of Teófilo del Valle, directed by Manuel de Juan. The event will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, September 8, at 7:30 PM, in the Cinemateca of the La Valona building, located on the Elche campus. Admission will be free until the hall is full.
The production addresses the events that occurred in the province of Alicante in February 1976, within the context of the footwear sector's mobilizations to achieve fair labor agreements. Following extensive historical research, the documentary delves into the case of the young worker Teófilo del Valle, who died from police gunfire in Elda during the repression of those protests. The film also explores the historical moment of the Transition through testimonies from Teófilo's friends, union leaders, journalists, and other protagonists of the events.
This work gathers testimonies and presents evidence that government officials sought to remove from the judicial record, while the victim's family continues to demand justice. Through the narrative between a father who witnessed the events and his son, the production articulates a reflective discourse on the impact of impunity and historical silence that accompanied the incident.
