Barça fans have denounced what they consider unjustified police charges by the Spanish police outside Elche's stadium, prior to the match played yesterday between the two teams. The incidents occurred after the police confiscated Catalan flags from a group of fans.
A video recorded by a fan shows a police officer confiscating a Catalan flag from a young man, separating him from the group, and subsequently hitting him with a baton. The young man, defending himself from the blows, ends up immobilized on the ground, arrested, and is hit again. According to reports, the young man was taken to a medical center and later to the Elche police station.
These images have drawn comparisons to the 1-O referendum on social media, where several fans have reported the incidents. They claim there were harsh charges against the Barça fans, even when a group went to complain about the police action towards the arrested young man.
A witness recounts that while they were queuing to enter, the already immobilized young man continued to receive blows to the elbow and baton, and his head was pressed to the ground. When some fans expressed their disagreement about the excessive force, more officers began to baton them.
Another fan adds that when the young man was already immobilized, he was hit with batons. When a group of fans complained, the police also charged against them, albeit lightly according to his testimony.
