The project, which resolves a decade-old issue, involved dismantling the facade's stonework, which has been numbered for subsequent recovery and restoration. These elements will be moved to the municipal warehouse for cleaning and reinstallation on the new building's facade, maintaining its original configuration.
Mayor Pablo Ruz, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Francisco Soler and third Deputy Mayor Aurora Rodil, visited the site. Ruz highlighted that the remaining debris will be cleared and the area asphalted on Friday to allow traffic reopening. Subsequently, archaeological test pits and geotechnical studies will be conducted to proceed with the construction of the new municipal building.
The future building will feature a basement, ground floor, and four upper levels, with a total constructed area of 920 square meters, and will house municipal offices. The estimated budget is 1.9 million euros.
Deputy Mayor Francisco Soler emphasized the importance of reaching this stage, explaining that test pits will now be dug before the construction is put out to tender. Third Deputy Mayor Aurora Rodil expressed the government's satisfaction in transforming long-standing problems into solutions and projects that generate enthusiasm, thanking the technicians and the company responsible for the work.
Additionally, efforts are underway to improve the square's surroundings, including sidewalk repairs and enhanced lighting with new light points.
