The project involved the comprehensive recovery of the Hort del Gat House and its surrounding natural environment. This action, part of the Generalitat's Restaura Plan, aims to highlight one of the most representative symbols of the local identity, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
The total investment exceeded two million euros. The Generalitat contributed 1.4 million for the building's restoration, while the Elche City Council allocated over 634,000 euros from Next Generation European funds for the adaptation of the historic orchard.
The work covered an area of over 10,000 square meters. Access points were improved, the irrigation system was renewed, and new lighting was installed. Additionally, the interior of the house was adapted to meet accessibility and functionality criteria, becoming an educational center on traditional cultivation systems.
“"Our heritage tells our story. The best way to preserve that legacy is to keep it alive, turning spaces like Hort del Gat into a meeting point between the past, the present, and the future."
