The Plenary Hall of the Elche City Council hosted an extraordinary session to address the crisis situation in the autonomous city of Ceuta since July 30th. The mayoral proposition, approved with votes in favor from PP and Vox and against from PSOE and Compromís, focused on demanding firm action from the Spanish Government in defense of the borders. It also expressed Elche's solidarity with Ceuta, supporting the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) call for a rally on September 2nd at 8:00 PM in Plaza de Baix.
Mayor Pablo Ruz emphasized the commitment, solidarity, and firmness of the people of Elche with the citizens of Ceuta, whom he believes have been deprived of their freedom to enjoy their streets and beaches, and the city to which they contribute through their taxes. Ruz stated, "Ceuta is Spain, we are with them, and Elche defends them."
For her part, the third deputy mayor, Aurora Rodil, highlighted the abandonment that the people of Ceuta have endured this month and encouraged citizens to attend the rally to show their commitment and solidarity with Ceuta, saying, "we will not leave them alone."
