The award recognizes the best TFMs from the Master's Degree in Permanent Training in Journalism and Democracy, promoted by the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) in alliance with Reporters Without Borders and the Gabo Foundation. The prize includes 1,000 euros.
The award ceremony took place in Bogotá, Colombia, during the 14th Gabo Festival, coinciding with the closing of the first edition of the Master's program. A panel discussion on 'Bridges between academia and journalism committed to democracy' was held, featuring UMH professors and other journalism professionals.
Participants agreed on the importance of building cooperation networks to defend press freedom and enhance public trust. Diplomas were presented to students from the first cohort, hailing from various Latin American countries, and two honorable mentions of 250 euros each were awarded to journalists Irene Abad Berenguer and Desireé Yépez Renjifo.
The UMH officially announced the opening of registrations for the second edition of the Master's program, an online course for journalists across Ibero-America focusing on ethical, political, and professional dilemmas in journalism. Registration will be open until September 15th.
