The Valencian Government has awarded the renovation works for the Algorós treatment plant in Elche for 72.8 million euros, the largest investment in water purification in the Valencian Community's history. Work is scheduled to start before the end of the year.

The award represents an 11.55% reduction from the initial bidding budget of 82.4 million euros. The UTE formed by Drace Geocisa, Global Omnium, and Ciclagua will be responsible for the comprehensive reform. Local Relations Councillor, Juan de Dios Navarro, highlighted the Consell's commitment to Elche through this project, which will improve the quality of treated water and incorporate more sustainable energy solutions.
The Local Government Board has issued a favorable Strategic Environmental and Territorial Report (IATE) for the punctual modification of the detailed planning of the Elche General Plan, related to the distribution area 115.1, corresponding to the Algorós Treatment Plant. This modification aims to classify the entire plot occupied by the station as a public facility, improve access to the infrastructure, and adjust road alignments.
With the favorable issuance of the report, it is considered that the proposal has no significant environmental effects, does not affect the current territorial model, nor does it cause a significant increase in resource consumption or impact natural or cultural heritage.
The new wastewater treatment plant will be built on the existing one to improve the flow and quality of wastewater for reuse, reduce the energy footprint, eliminate odors and noise, and comply with European regulations. The plant will have a maximum capacity of approximately 13 cubic hectometers, with an execution period of 42 months.
