The Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche has commenced the 2026-2027 academic year for its University Classrooms for Experience (AUNEX), with over 500 students enrolled across its seven program locations.

The educational program, designed for individuals over 55 years old, held its official inauguration yesterday at the Orihuela-Salesas campus. The event featured a conference focused on promoting respectful treatment towards the elderly.
The conference included participation from notable figures such as the Councillor for Family of the Orihuela City Council, María del Carmen Portugal Bueno; the AUNEX coordinator in Orihuela, professor Rosario Tur Ausina; and the director of the SABIEX area, UMH professor Esther Sitges Maciá.
The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of preventing ageism, fostering a positive image of aging, and cultivating relationships based on mutual respect.
The University Classrooms for Experience are the primary educational program of SABIEX, the UMH's Comprehensive Program for those over 55, affiliated with the Vice-Rectorate for Culture, Equality, and Diversity. Since its inception in 1999, AUNEX has offered multidisciplinary university education, enabling seniors to continue learning and actively participate in university life.
With the start of this new academic year, the UMH reaffirms its commitment to lifelong learning and promoting opportunities for education, social participation, and active, healthy aging for individuals over 55.
