The Department of Infrastructure of Orihuela, headed by Víctor Valverde, has initiated the tender process for palm tree pruning, removal of inflorescences and fruits, and fumigation against the red palm weevil in the municipality's public spaces.
The contract includes a comprehensive program for plant health and phytosanitary treatments, both preventive and curative, focused on controlling pests and diseases affecting palm trees. It also covers sustainable management of waste generated by pruning and risk management associated with specimens requiring it, as well as periodic inspection of the phytosanitary and structural condition of the palm trees.
The planned actions will be applied to approximately 525 palm trees located in the urban center of Orihuela. This number may vary during the contract's term due to new plantings, replacements, or the loss of specimens.
The contract will have a duration of two years, with a total investment of €159,115 (VAT included), and includes the possibility of an annual extension for another two years.
The councilor for Infrastructure highlighted the importance of palm trees as part of Orihuela's native flora and its urban environment in parks and squares. He recalled that these actions are essential for the protection and improvement of the environment and for enhancing the value of plant species.
The tender documents are published on the contracting platform, and offers can be submitted until October 26.
