The new cycle infrastructure will connect the Sports City with the Ricardo Lafuente roundabout and extend along La Mancha Avenue to Gabriela Mistral Street. The project, managed by the European Funds Unit, aims to improve the city's connectivity with new cycle paths and specific parking areas.
The first section, spanning 1,450 meters on Delfina Viudes Avenue, will feature a bidirectional cycle lane on the existing sidewalk, incorporating accessible ramps and specific signage. A scooter user counter will also be installed.
The second section, 620 meters long, will include a new segregated bidirectional cycle lane on the road, using recycled rubber separators for cyclist safety. A marked cycle crossing will be adapted at the intersection with Cortes Valencianas Avenue, with enhanced safety through electronic signage.
The 1,250-meter stretch of La Mancha Avenue proposes separate unidirectional cycle lanes on each side, slightly narrowing the motorized vehicle lanes to ensure minimum safety widths and reduce traffic speed.
The final 380-meter route along Gabriela Mistral Avenue will lead to the vicinity of the Ciudad del Mar Public School, improving the school environment with enhanced pedestrian crossings and signage prioritizing pedestrians and cyclists.
This new cycle network is expected to reduce private vehicle traffic, improving mobility. The estimated annual energy saving from fossil fuel vehicles is 50.88 TEP, with an annual CO2 reduction of 183,894.3 kg.
