The Alicante-based construction company Esclapés e Hijos has emerged as the chosen firm to undertake the comprehensive renovation of the Rojales Abastos Market. The municipal Contracting Board has proposed its award for an amount of 474,950 euros (VAT included), after obtaining the maximum score in the bidding process. This action seeks to address long-standing issues of leaks and deterioration in the facilities.
Esclapés e Hijos achieved the highest score in the award criteria, including price, reduction of execution time, and warranty extension. Their economic offer, amounting to 392,520.67 euros before taxes, represents a reduction of 12,005.09 euros compared to the initial tender budget. Furthermore, the company commits to completing the work in 70.4 working days, 20% less than the planned timeframe, and offers an additional five years of warranty.
Three companies competed for this contract: Esclapés e Hijos, Nerco Infraestructuras, and Teresem. Esclapés e Hijos' bid was the lowest, followed by Teresem (484,000 euros) and Nerco Infraestructuras (486,420 euros). The award proposal now needs to be ratified by the competent body, and Esclapés e Hijos must provide proof of compliance with the requirements and establish a definitive guarantee.
The renovation aims to resolve water leaks from the metal roof, a persistent problem since the building's construction. The project includes replacing the current roof with a new Deck-type roof, featuring galvanized steel sheeting and thermal insulation. Gutters and downpipes will also be renewed.
The comprehensive upgrade will extend to the market's interior, with new suspended ceilings, partitions, LED lighting, and high-traffic porcelain stoneware flooring. The basement and parking area will also be improved, with a new concrete floor and updated signage. Enhancements to fire safety systems and ventilation are also included.
