According to data from the Bathing Water Quality Control Program of the Ministry of Environment and Water, samples taken on August 24, 2026, showed levels exceeding twice the maximum permissible limits. This situation suggests a “contamination of residual origin”.
As a precautionary measure to protect swimmers' health, both beaches have been temporarily closed and the prohibition of swimming has been signposted. The beaches will reopen once new analyses confirm that the water meets the required quality standards again.
The Ministry of Environment and Water conducts regular checks to quickly detect potential issues and ensure user safety. The Coastal Department is collaborating with technicians from the Water Directorate to identify and resolve the source of contamination as soon as possible.
The Department will provide updates on any developments and announce the beaches' reopening as soon as analytical results guarantee the water quality levels are restored.
