The Chamber's president, Mario Martínez, recalled that the duplication of the N-332 is a long-standing demand of the territory, along with the CV-95 and the toll liberalization of the AP-7, which directly affect the Vega Baja. According to Martínez, the widening "cannot wait any longer," as it is a structural problem impacting mobility, tourism, commerce, services, and the overall economic activity of the region.
The chamber institution insists that the current state of these routes causes a bottleneck in Torrevieja and its surroundings throughout the year. The Orihuela Chamber believes this demand should be supported by all the region's city councils, as the infrastructure affects not only coastal connectivity but also the economic activity of inland municipalities. "Economic development does not recognize municipal boundaries. What happens in Torrevieja also affects our businesses and workers," stated the president.
Mario Martínez urges administrations to act, as "when a company considers settling, growing, or investing in a territory, it also analyzes its communications." If access roads are congested or travel times are unpredictable, the territory loses competitiveness.
The Chamber advocates for the widening of the N-332 to be addressed within a comprehensive mobility strategy for the Vega Baja, including the execution of the CV-95 as a backbone between Orihuela and Torrevieja, and the toll liberalization of the AP-7. "The Vega Baja cannot continue to be an exception," indicated the chamber president, requesting an investment plan that places the region "in the 21st century".
Furthermore, regarding the installation of photovoltaic infrastructure, the Orihuela Chamber of Commerce "defends the implementation of renewable energies and the transition towards more sustainable models," but believes this development "must be carried out in an orderly manner, compatible with territorial protection, and avoiding the occupation of land with high agricultural or tourist value".
Mario Martínez pointed out that the Vega Baja has suitable spaces for solar energy installation, such as "irrigation ponds, roofs of industrial buildings, municipal buildings, or even the area around the La Pedrera reservoir." The institution believes that the energy transition should be an opportunity, but it cannot lead to the loss of productive land or a threat to strategic sectors.
