Summer has brought a significant increase in waste on the streets of Peñíscola, forcing the council to take drastic measures. In just one month, cleaning services have collected approximately fifteen tons of garbage. The Councilor for the Environment, Miguel Castell, explained that they are "on the verge of 2,000 tons of waste, which is two million kilograms of refuse".
From now on, disposing of trash outside of designated hours or areas will incur considerable financial penalties, potentially reaching up to 3,000 euros. In addition to stricter fines, the City Council has reinforced surveillance in public areas.
As new measures, a door-to-door collection service specifically for hotels and campsites has been implemented. In parallel, public education efforts continue to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining urban cleanliness, reminding citizens that "the cleanest person is the one who litters the least".
