The Ministry of Agriculture has published a resolution with new protection measures against Newcastle disease in the Valencian Community.

The General Directorate of Agricultural and Livestock Production has established a plan to strengthen epidemiological surveillance and biosecurity in poultry farms. The objective is to minimize the risk of virus spread, as reported by the Generalitat.
The resolution, published in the DOGV, details the collection of samples using tracheo-cloacal swabs in backyard, commercial, self-consumption poultry farms, zoological nuclei, and dovecotes, especially in animals with compatible symptoms or recently deceased, in areas affected by disease outbreaks.
Sanitary control using PCR will be carried out on dovecotes, and cloacal samples will be taken from all pigeons participating in sporting events held in the Valencian Community to detect the presence of the virus.
The poultry sector will intensify vaccination protocols. A vaccination immunity surveillance plan will be implemented in broiler and turkey farms, and veterinary professionals will conduct zoosanitary visits to all poultry farms as soon as possible.
A biosecurity survey has been developed for commercial poultry farms in municipalities with high poultry density, such as Gorga, Albocàsser, Canet lo Roig, Catí, Les Coves de Vinromà, Xert, La Jana, Rossell, Traiguera, Vinaròs, Alpuente, Barx, Camporrobles, Fuenterrobles, and Sinarcas. Furthermore, the collection and treatment of manure and slurry must be carried out by registered companies and in authorized establishments, ensuring the cleaning and disinfection of vehicles.
Operational biosecurity training courses will be scheduled for poultry farm owners and operators throughout the Valencian Community. These actions will be carried out by the administration and sector organizations.
