Under the slogan “Know your risk, take care of your health”, the initiative involves local pharmacies, social and health entities, associations, and educational centers. The Councilor for Health, Paula Soler, the Councilor for Education, Ferran Gandia, and the Coordinator of Primary Care for Ontinyent Health Centers, Víctor Climent, have highlighted the importance of bringing health information into daily life. Paula Soler stated that “we want to facilitate access to information, encourage the population to know their risk, and value the work of professionals, associations, pharmacies, and educational centers”.
The main early detection action will be a free diabetes screening available at all Ontinyent pharmacies between Monday, November 2nd, and Friday, November 6th. It is recommended to attend after fasting, preferably between 9 and 10 AM, under the motto “A small test for a great future”.
The program will begin on Monday, November 2nd, with an information booth at the Municipal Market, in Plaza de la Coronación, from 9 AM to 1 PM. From Tuesday to Friday, the Casa del Delme will host, from 5 PM to 6 PM, the “Workshops for your health”, with sessions dedicated to physical exercise, emotional well-being, medication knowledge and use, and healthy eating.
The workshops will feature participation from professionals and collaborating entities. On Tuesday the 3rd, the Association of Cardiac and Anticoagulated Patients and professionals Carlos Vidal and Eric Hervás will lead the physical exercise session. On Wednesday the 4th, the associations Ànima and A.D.E.M. will address emotional well-being. On Thursday the 5th, community pharmacies will cover medication knowledge and use, and on Friday the 6th, the Association of Housewives of Ontinyent Tyrius and nutritionist Cristina Valls will discuss healthy eating.
The Community Diabetes Week will conclude on Friday, November 6th, with a school march for students in sixth grade of Primary and first grade of ESO. Classes will depart from their respective educational centers starting at 11 AM and are expected to arrive at the City Hall around 12 PM, where a manifesto will be read. The initiative includes t-shirts provided by the City Council and a solidarity bib for one euro benefiting the Fundación DiabetesCERO.
