The inaugural session, titled “Fatphobia as a System of Oppression,” was given last Friday, October 16th, by Sandra Gonfaus, a communicator specializing in gender. From a feminist and intersectional perspective, the talk analyzed the representation of fat people in media, such as cinema, series, and advertising, as well as associated social stereotypes. The event was highly participatory, fostering reflection on aesthetic pressure and the influence of cultural references on body valuation.
The Feminist School's program will continue on Friday, October 23rd, at 7:00 PM, also at the Casa del Delme. The second talk, “We’ve Been Deceived. What If Losing Weight Isn’t What You Want?”, will be led by Laura Alberola Osorio, a clinical psychologist specializing in EMDR and eating disorders (ED). This session will question aesthetic pressure on women and its relationship with EDs, proposing a reflection on whether losing weight should always be a personal goal.
The Councilor for Equality, Paula Soler, has encouraged citizens to join the activities of this seventh edition. The aim is to provide tools to understand and question body stereotypes, promoting a society more respectful of diversity. Advance registration is recommended to secure a spot, using the QR codes available on the event's posters.
