The City Council of Tavernes de la Valldigna received the Ambassador of the Republic of Malta to Spain, Simon Pullicino, today. The meeting, promoted by the council and the Association of Friends of Malta, also included the presence of the Consul of Malta in Valencia, Fernando Estellés.
The event served to revisit the history and the ties that unite Tavernes de la Valldigna with the Maltese city of Zejtun. This relationship dates back over two centuries, when Lorenzo Mifsud Borg, originally from Malta, settled in the town, giving rise to a lineage that has left a profound mark on the social, economic, and institutional life of the municipality.
Generation after generation, descendants of Maltese families have contributed to the city's growth and development, consolidating bonds that remain strong today. The gathering brought together members of the municipal corporation, a group of Maltese citizens visiting the province of Valencia, and local residents of Maltese descent.

In this context, Mayor Lara Romero announced the City Council's intention to promote a twinning with Zejtun, emphasizing that the initiative will help further consolidate their connection, legacy, and future friendship. Romero also thanked the ambassador for his visit and indicated that a delegation from Tavernes will soon travel to Malta to formalize the twinning.
