The city of Oliva hosts tomorrow, Saturday, the 15th edition of the TotalEnergies Gran Fons Alberto Contador cycling event, an occasion that this year honors cyclist Óscar Pereiro and was launched with the signing of an agreement for the next four editions.

The 15th TotalEnergies Gran Fons Alberto Contador cycling event will take place tomorrow, Saturday, September 19, and will traverse the regions of La Safor, La Marina Alta, La Marina Baixa, and El Comtat. The Oliva City Council and the Alberto Contador Foundation have signed a collaboration agreement to ensure the event's continuation in Oliva for the next 4 years.
This year's route will cover a total distance of 139.5 km with an accumulated elevation gain of 2,510 m. The start and finish will be at Oliva Nova, with the event scheduled to begin at 8:00 AM.
This year, the honored personality is Óscar Pereiro, a professional cyclist from 2000 to 2010, known for his victory in the 2006 Tour de France. Last year, the guest was Luis León Sánchez.
Present at the launch were Alberto Contador, Óscar Pereiro, the Director General of Sports for the Generalitat Valenciana, Luís Cervera; the Mayor of Oliva, Yolanda Pastor; the Councilor for Sports, Joan Mascarell; Luís Girbés from TotalEnergies (sponsor); and Luis Borho, director of Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Resort. The presentation was hosted by journalist Juanmari Guajardo.
Participation this year reaches 1,900 cyclists from eleven different nationalities, including Ireland, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, France, and Colombia.
Prior to the Gran Fons presentation, the Foundation's president, Henar Garcia, visited the Red Cross in Oliva to donate four bicycles for a social intervention project aimed at individuals with specific mobility needs.
This afternoon, the Alberto Contador Foundation will also organize a bicycle and road safety workshop for children aged 4 to 14 in front of the Hotel Oliva Nova.

"For me, it's a joy to be back at the Gran Fondo in Oliva and to share this day with all the people who come to enjoy cycling. Here, the most important thing is not to compete to be first, but to enjoy the bicycle, the people, and the experience this event offers."

Alberto Contador · Former professional cyclist

"At Oliva Nova, we continue to support collaboration in sports events like the Gran Fondo Alberto Contador, which help raise the profile of our municipality and attract visitors throughout the year."

Luis Borho · Director of Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Resort

"The Gran Fondo Alberto Contador represents a very important event for Oliva, both from a sporting, tourist, and economic perspective. Year after year, this race allows us to continue consolidating the municipality as a destination linked to cycling and active tourism, generating activity beyond the summer season. From the Oliva City Council, we invite all citizens to participate, whether as participants or spectators."

Joan Mascarell · Oliva's Councilor for Sports

"I want to welcome Alberto Contador and the entire team once again to our city. The Gran Fondo has been a firmly established event in our city since 2016. That's why today we have also signed the agreement for the Gran Fondo to continue being part of our sports program for 4 more years, with a 2+2 year extension. I also wish all participants a great day tomorrow, and I invite all residents of Oliva and surrounding towns to come cheer on the riders and enjoy the event."
