The Town Hall square in Sueca hosted once again the commemoration of World Alzheimer's Day, organized by the Association of Families of People with Alzheimer's in Sueca (AFASU). The event began with the reading of a manifesto by Xusa Coves, a member of AFASU's management team, representing the Valencian Federation of Associations of Families and Friends of People with Alzheimer's (FEVAFA).
The manifesto called for the rights of the group, demanding that administrations recognize the associative movement as an essential agent in responding to Alzheimer's and ensure the stability of fundamental services for thousands of Valencian families. Coves emphasized the importance of visibility, stating that "our healthcare and social system must see Alzheimer's because behind every diagnosis there is a person, behind every person there is a family, and because where we live or our economic resources should never decide the opportunities we have. Because when we talk about Alzheimer's, time is not a number: it is life".
The mayor of Sueca, Julián Sáez, thanked all the schools and teachers in the municipality for their participation, highlighting the importance of young people knowing about Alzheimer's and the ongoing fight in Sueca. He called for applause of recognition for AFASU and its professionals, who this year celebrate their 10th anniversary working to improve the quality of life for patients and their families.
The Councilor for Social Action, Sari Sáez, emphasized the management of emotions and encouraged families to seek professional help from the AFASU association, highlighting their great effort and hope in improving the care of relatives.
The event concluded with a green balloon release, representing the movement against Alzheimer's, with the participation of 4th and 5th-grade primary school students from the municipality's schools.
Throughout September, AFASU has carried out various awareness activities in collaboration with educational centers and local entities. For the upcoming October 16th, the traditional Gala Dinner has been organized, which this year commemorates AFASU's 10th anniversary, inviting all citizens to participate.
