For four days, Sueca, the capital of La Ribera Baixa, will host 20 companies that will turn streets, squares, and performance spaces into meeting points. The festival, running until September 20, maintains physical theater as its core focus while expanding its offerings to disciplines like dance and circus, aiming to attract a diverse audience.
The opening day begins at 6:00 PM with a masterclass on introduction to expressive mask, led by José Dault (Kulunka Teatro) at the Centre Municipal Bernat i Baldoví. At the same time, Pere Hosta will present Woof at the Sequer Casal Jove, a gesture-based comedy. Meanwhile, at the Molí del Pasiego, the Navarrese company Qabalum will perform Todo este ruido, a piece exploring the relationship between light and technology with two performers and a drone.
Thursday's program also includes the absolute premiere of La inquilina by Merce Tienda at the Casal Jove, a physical and object theater piece about inner repression. Additionally, the plaça dels Molins de la Vila will debut as a new outdoor venue with the show Liebe by the Valencian company TITOYAYA Dansa, inviting the audience to be part of an accidental love story.
Public spaces will be central with performances like Ninguna palabra by La Balbál (France/Argentina) in the plaça de Sant Pere (6:45 PM and 11:30 PM), which blends poetry, risk, and humor using an aerial frame. At 10:00 PM, the Centre Municipal Bernat i Baldoví will host La Phazz by Zero en Conducta, a physical and visual theater piece addressing mental health.
The festival also emphasizes its social dimension with the project Nostàlgia by L’Últim Toc Teatre-MIM Sueca. Resulting from an intergenerational workshop, the piece reflects on grandparents, memories, and the passage of time, using culture as a tool for social cohesion. It will be shown daily at the CEIP Carrasquer.
Organized by the Sueca City Council, MIM is supported by the Valencian Institute of Culture (IVC), the Provincial Council of Valencia-Culture (SARC), and the Ministry of Culture, with additional backing from À Punt Mèdia.
